Work Packages

packages-r-p
WP1 Biowaste feedstocks selection and biochar production.

O.1 Selection of biowaste streams of suitable quality for biochar production

O.2 Identification of optimal slow pyrolysis process conditions for biochar production

O.3 Identification of optimal leaching process conditions and reagents for biochar upgrading

WP Leader: RE-CORD (CONSORZIO PER LA RICERCA E LA DIMOSTRAZIONE SULLE ENERGIE RINNOVABILI)

WP2 Development of a Biocoal-based catalyst for biomethane pyrolysis.

O2.1. Determining the desired specifications of the biochar-based catalyst for methane cracking.

O2.2. Defining a set of procedures to improve the properties of the biocoal and its catalytic activity.

O2.3. Comparing the structural properties and catalytic activity of different raw and upgraded biocoals, using complementary characterization techniques and a lab-scale methane cracking unit.

O2.4. Identifying the best biocoal-based catalyst, taking into account activity and durability.

WP Leader: POLITECNICO DI TORINO

WP3 Design, construction and testing of a new proof-of-concept system.

O3.1. Design a proof-of-concept unit (POC) for biomethane catalytic cracking

O3.2. Construction of the POC unit for biomethane catalytic cracking.

O3.3. Identifying the optimal operating conditions for biomethane catalytic cracking evaluating performances and hydrogen yield in the proof-of-concept reactor.

WP Leader: POLITECNICO DI TORINO

WP4 Assessment of H2STEEL concept: green H2 and C integration in Steel-making.

O4.1 Assessing production scenarios and their comparative environmental impacts

O4.2 Assessing contribution of the technology to EU decarbonization objectives

WP Leader: UNIVERSITY OF LEIDEN

WP5 Communication and Dissemination.

O5.1. To raise public and scientific awareness about the outcomes of the project and the developments achieved.

O5.2. To design and implement a communication plan of the project to engage key stakeholders with a proper transfer of knowledge and results through an appropriate dissemination strategy.

O5.3. To ensure that the project’s objectives, activities and methodologies developed are widely promoted to the target groups defined on European level and beyond.

WP6 Exploitation of the H2STEEL concept.

The activities aimed at supporting an effective translation of expected research results into innovations with relevant socio-economic impact will be based on a set of interconnected tasks, that involve different methodological approaches as described below. The overall objectives of such activities consist on the early identification and assessments of alternative exploitation paths that range from the out-licensing of patented research results to the creation of a start-ups for the industrialisation for product industrialisation or to the setup of appropriate partnership with industrial and financial players than can provide relevant assets to achieve the deployment of research outcomes. The analysis of exploitation paths will also take into consideration an appraisal of the expected impact dimensions (e.g. generation of highly qualified jobs, degree of diffusion of the new technology in the relevant industries, expected environmental benefits, knowledge spill overs for subsequent technological innovations).

WP Leader: SOCIETA PER LA GESTIONE DELL’INCUBATORE D’ IMPRESA DEL POLITECNICO SCPA

WP7 Coordination and management.

The main objective of the WP is to manage the project and the Consortium so as to reach successfully the objectives established in each work package. The objectives of this work package include the delivery of the different deliverables with the highest level of quality from a scientific and technical point of view, while maintaining the costs and timeframes expected in the project, as approved by the European Commission. This work package also covers the management of internal and external communications of the Consortium, as well as the communications with the Project Officer.

WP8 Portfolio activities.

Compare key results of the project with the ones of the other projects funded under the Challenge “Novel routes to green hydrogen production” in call for proposals HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDERCHALLENGES-01-04 in order to build a shared roadmap of technologies competitiveness and key challenges to accelerate the development of their innovation potential. Develop synergies and collaborations with different stakeholders including beneficiaries of the other funded projects in the portfolio of the challenge). The objectives of the WP are steered by the EISMEA Programme Managers in charge of the portfolio.
